Golf Mark Award
Filton Golf club were awarded the Golf Mark High Achiever Award. Andrew Chivers, Chairman of the Junior Committee commented that “over the last 15 months the Junior Committee worked hard and pushed for the highest standards that we could possibly achieve. As a Club the philosophy has changed and members now see the junior members as a crucial part of the Club’s strategy to increase its membership in the years ahead".
The numerous courses and form filling along with implementing new procedures into the golf club has not been easy, and of course we have been very fortunate to have so many willing members at the golf club wanting to help and give up their free time to become part of the Junior/Academy team, in what has been one of the many great success stories at Filton Golf Club.
With guidance from our PGA Teaching Pro who oversees the coaching sessions, we were able to form a new Academy membership and without any advertising it was an instant success. This accreditation is testament to the hard work that the Junior Committee and Golf Club have put into providing a safer, securer and friendlier environment where junior golfers and academy members can learn to play golf and have some fun. The Junior Committee feels very proud of this achievement and with this high accolade we can keep moving forward building a secure future for Filton Golf Club.
New Team Event for FGC Junior Open
Filtons Junior Open was a huge success and the course and weather was fantastic. We also introduced two new team trophies this year with a gross and nett prizes being The maurice Stagg Trophy and The 1909 Cup.
The shock of the day was that one of the Filton teams actually won both gross and nett trophies. Congratulations to Mitch Waite, George Boyes and Luke Derrick on their success in our first team year.
George Boyes didn't stop there, in fact he also took the Filton nett Cup and the Open nett cup, so congratulations to him. The Open gross was won by Knowles Louis O'Reagan.
We also held a flag competition for our Academy members where they played off the blue tees and had a maximum number of shots, which when completed they put a flag in the ground. The furthest flag winning. Joe Waite won, with Mason waite in second place and Mackenzie Chivers coming third. This was a massive success and will be planning more of these through the end of this season.
Thank you to all the helpers on the day and to all of our competitors, and hope to see you all back next year.
Junior Captain/Vice 2011
Jonny Doidge is appointed junior captain for 2011, along with Mitch Waite as his assistant, and we wish them all the best for the season ahead.

Result 4-1 Win A great start to the season with a solid victory over Thornbury. Congratulations to the whole team who all played so well to pull off a win. Lukes match was very close, giving 5 shots from the start he took his apponent Ryan Clark up the 18th after coming back from a few down but unfortunatley lost. Thatch also lost but lost heavily to Simon Weeks who played out of his skin. Thank you to Thornbury for a great match. |

Result 4½-1½ Loss A very good match against Saltford who were really on form that day. Most of our guys were up early doors only to be turned around by Saltford on the back end. Filton unfortunatley gave alot of shots away, but that was no excuse as we took the early lead! A great win by our Captain Jonny with a 4&3 defeat over Aron Nyberg giving 9 shots away! A great battle with the last match of George Hilliam who came back from 2 down and clinched what might be a very important half point at the end of the season against Alex March. |

Result - Half A great match away to Bath, with our Captain Jonny leading the pack and although giving a shot away he was on fire and finished his opponent off early doors with a 5&4 win - Very similar match with Mitch against a 5 handicapper and also winning 5&4. Luke was playing a scratch match and halved on the last, and Thatch with a convincing 4&3 victory. George B hel his own at Bath and was very pleased with a 3&2 loss after a very poor medal round the day before. Congratulations to our Rookie Tom McGee, who was thrown into the deep end. We introduced Tom to match play with any warm up games and he did us proud by keeping his match going until the 15th-from 5 down after 7 holes and losing 5&3.

Sponsors
Wilts Wholesale Electrical has been owned by the Kingsbury Family since 1946. The company was established back in 1925 by an electrical contractor called the James Brothers. They had three shops in local Wiltshire towns and an electrical wholesale business in Trowbridge. This business held the franchise for Exide batteries that were used in large country houses before the mains supply was established. After the war, the current owners sold the Trowbridge operation to George Kingsbury and his partner Len Doel. They had both worked within the business and saw that it had potential as an electrical wholesaler. David Kingsbury started working with his father, George Kingsbury, in the 1950’s and they operated with just one branch until 1974 when the Gloucester branch was opened. The Trowbridge branch was originally situated in the town centre but moved to its current location in the mid 70’s where it has grown to what it is today – a 150,000 sq ft distribution warehouse plus the 160-person Support Centre. Filton Juniors are very proud to have Wilts Electrical as their sponsor. |
